With the approach of the American Cancer Society's Great American Smokeout on Thursday, November 16, smokers who want to stop smoking may want to reconsider whether going "cold turkey" is right for them. Smoking Cessation Coach Charles Tedesco says that one major key to boosting your chances of success is to take at least a few weeks to prepare before you stop. "If you haven't done anything to get ready to stop smoking, it's very challenging for most smokers to just stop for good," says Tedesco. "If you look at stopping as a process and use the Smokeout as a great time to start that process, then your chances of quitting and staying quit are much higher."
